Commands in. Report out.

Qualification days, tactical entry and live-fire training put the same impulse through your ears every time, and standard protection takes your radio and your team with it. The DI Impulse filter keeps 360-degree directionality and voice between shots and reacts the instant the shot goes off S1. The supplier names small-arms fire, artillery exercises, tactical entry and combat environments as its applications S1. Molded to each member from a 3D scan, finished in soft silicone, made in Mississauga Q.

How to read this page. Statements marked S1 are the filter supplier's specification sheet. Q are Qui8's own statements. Numbered sources are public guidance and published studies; the list is available on request from the industrial page.

On the line

Open between shots. Closed on the report.

A shot is a pressure spike that peaks and is gone before a wearer could react. The DI Impulse filter is an acoustic valve designed to respond to that spike instantly, taking the force out of the pressure wave from ballistic and impact sources S1. Between shots it stays open: an air-vented channel keeps sound moving into the ear, so a range command, a team call and the direction it came from all arrive intact S1.

That is the difference between protection a member tolerates for a qualification string and protection they keep in through a full training day S111. A 25 dB protector out for five minutes an hour protects like an 11 dB one 11.

How the impulse filter behaves Two states. Between shots the valve is open and sound passes through the vent. On the shot the valve closes and the spike is cut. BETWEEN SHOTS: OPEN ON THE SHOT: CLOSED commands and direction pass the report is cut

  • 12 hours

Designed and certified for 12 hours of continuous wear comfort S1

  • Washable

Standard detergent and warm water; field maintenance is a sink S1

  • Vented

Continuous air movement into the canal preserves awareness and keeps the ear drier S1

The plug sits inside the ear canal, clear of a helmet, eye protection and a respirator the way muffs and banded caps are not 1211. It sits beside a comms earpiece; tell us what comms you run and we check the fit on the day Q. Nothing to charge, nothing to fail in the wet Q. A custom plug has no roll-down step, so it goes in with gloves on 12Q. One pair per member lasts years, not courses 12Q.

Straight talk

What a training sergeant will check before signing.

  • Indoor ranges and large calibres: double up. NIOSH advises dual protection, muffs over plugs, at 100 dBA or more and for impulse noise 12. A molded plug under muffs stays seated when the muffs come off and on Q.
  • There is no single figure on the sheet. The supplier states no peak attenuation number for the impulse filter. Ask us for the attenuation data before you put a number in a file S1.
  • Passive, not electronic. The valve is acoustic. If the unit needs amplification of quiet sounds or radio integration, that is a different product; ask Q.
  • Fit test, then record it. Fit testing is recommended for any protector 12. Federally regulated workplaces, including the forces and federal police, carry an 87 dBA exposure limit 30; provincial services fall under their province's regulation (Ontario: 85 dBA) 2. Either way the selection belongs in the unit's hearing conservation record 1.

FAQ

Questions units ask before they book

Can a detachment or unit be fitted together?

Yes. We run fitting days at your site; tell us how many members and where Q.

Do they work with a radio earpiece and a helmet?

The plug sits inside the ear canal, clear of headgear 12; tell us what comms you run and we check the fit on the day Q.

How do we clean them after a range week?

DI Impulse filters are fully washable with standard detergent and warm water S1. Follow the care instructions supplied with the molds Q.

Can we get a colour other than orange?

No. Every Qui8 mold is safety orange, so an instructor can see from the line that a member's are in Q28.

What is the rating, for the file?

The supplier gives no single attenuation number for the impulse filter. Ask us for the attenuation data and test documentation; this page does not quote a figure the sheet does not carry S1.

Do members still need muffs?

Indoors and with large calibres, NIOSH advises dual protection 12. Outdoors with small calibres the plugs are commonly worn alone; follow the range's rules Q.

Request a fitting day

Tell us the unit, the range and the comms.

Qui8 will reply to confirm a fitting day at your site, or a scan at our Mississauga location or an approved hearing clinic for an individual member Q.
